Brightwell Blueberry – Vaccinium virgatum ‘Brightwell’

Grown commercially throughout Southeast North America and beyond, the Brightwell Blueberry is chosen for its vigorous growth, minimal maintenance, and flavorful fruit. The open, spreading shrub reaches its full height quickly and can produce 15 pounds of berries each year. That’s a lot of blueberry preserves! Grows 8-10 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide. Hardiness zones 6=9. Grows best in full sun.

Brightwell blueberry doesn’t really need another variety to produce fruit but another variety is needed to produce larger fruit and higher yield. I recommend larger fruited Austin for a pollinator which we also sell  HERE.

Description

Brightwell Blueberry – Vaccinium virgatum ‘Brightwell’

The Brightwell Blueberry plant is a variety of Rabbiteye Blueberry. Rabbiteye blueberries perform well in the Southern US due to their abilities to withstand high heat and tolerate drought. The blueberries are highly productive and grow vigorously while also being adaptable to most conditions. Rabbiteye blueberries are self-fruiting, but it is recommended to plant more than one variety for the best fruit production. The Brightwell blueberry bush pairs well with Austin.

The Brightwell Blueberry has an upright growth habit that produces foliage and fruit vigorously with a height that can reach up to 10 feet! Flowering starts in late spring to early summer. Expect anbundance of ripe fruit in mid to late summer. Green foliage is prominent in the growing season, while fall gives way to a beautiful shade of red.

The Brightwell Blueberry Bush requires full sun and acidic soil. Keep this in mind when choosing a spot to plant your blueberry bush. Cross pollination is essential for blueberry production, so it is advised to plant more than one variety. Brightwell pairs well with Austin. Your Brightwell Blueberry can be trimmed back once it is established. Prune in late winter or very early spring.

Give Brightwell a sunny spot with good drainage. It’s not as fussy as other blueberry bushes and has few pest and disease problems Brightwell is also unaffected by late winter or early spring freezes better than most other varieties A bit more tolerant of less acidic soils, Brightwell Blueberry requires a pH of 6.0 or less to thrive. Easy-care Brightwell is also unaffected by late winter or early spring freezes.
